#4 - Getting Ready for Your First Class!
Stepping into Creativity
When, Where, How and What You Need
It is time to decide when, where and how you will be creating your Mindful Mandalas. Selecting your creative space is very important as you want to feel comfortable. This week you will also need to purchase your supplies.
When: Establishing a time for your practice
It is my hope that you will consider integrating the practices offered in Creating Brave as a daily or almost daily practice. Set aside 20 – 30 minutes each day – or every other day – to create.
Where: Your Creative Space
Any place will do – kitchen or dining room table. I like to put my Mindful Mandala supplies on a tray so I can create wherever I like. Indoors or out. Just make sure you are somewhere where you will not be disturbed. Consider starting with an opening ritual for your practice. Perhaps lighting a candle or burning some incense. You can listen to soft instrumental music or silence. You will fine tune your Creative Space as you get deeper into your practice.
How: Alone or With Others
So now you need to decide how you are going to learn and practice Mindful Mandalas. Are you going to experience this by yourself, with a small group or a combination of the two?
We encourage you to invite your friends, family members, and/or colleagues to join you, but remember participant must register individually. It is not okay to purchase one class registration and share it with the group.
Either way here are a few guidelines that will be helpful to you before you start your first mandala practice.
Mindful Mandalas Individual and Group Guidelines
- Turn off all cell phones and let others in your environment know that you are not to be interrupted for about 20 minutes. You can of course use as much time as you want.
- Try to stay engaged. Be Here Now in this present moment as much as you can.
- Be gentle and patient with yourself.
- Do not compare or judge your creations! “Comparison is the thief of joy.” - Teddy Roosevelt
- Trust the process.
- Ask more questions than seeking answers.
- There is no right or wrong way.
- Honor all emotions. Don’t apologize for any. Notice what arises.
- Your creative space is sacred and safe.
- Be careful who you share your tender creations with. Remember they are expressions of your innermost self and should only be shared with those who have earned the right.
If you are practicing within a group add these to the ones above
- Listen attentively to others with no interruptions and expect others to do the same to you.
- Speak your Truth and respect the Truths of others.
- We are not here to fix and solve.
- Respect everyone’s privacy. Share your discoveries if you like but not those of others.
